Food-loving Filipinos recently got a taste of the New Zealand delicacy - the kiwifruit. Prior to that, kiwifruits were only seen on top of hotel cakes and pastries, or on exotic salads. So it was with eager anticipation that media guests trooped to The Stock Market in Fort Bonifacio Global City - a charming restaurant known for its fruit stand display. That morning, the stands were overrun of little, brown kiwifruits, proof that it had, indeed, taken the Philippines by storm.
New Zealand Ambassador Andrew Matheson welcomed the media guests, giving them a sneak peek of New Zealand through his entertaining spiel. ZESPRI™ Market Manager for South East Asia Daniel Mathieson then got to the core of the event by highlighting facts and figures about the kiwifruit industry, especially its performance in the Philippines. A famed Fililipino nutritionist Dr. Sanirose Orbeta also talked about the nutritional benefits of kiwifruit from a local perspective.
Chef Wendel Briones demonstrated the easiest way to enjoy the kiwifruit - just cut in half and scoop - and invented a kiwifruit-inspired 6-course menu from a salad sprinkled with kiwifruit vinaigrette to kiwifruit ratatouille for all guests.
